Researchers say that a lack of rapid-eye movement (REM) sleep appears to trigger proteins that are linked to migraines. The proteins–PKA and P2X3–are known to help initiate and sustain chronic pain. Scientists at Missouri State University’s Center for Biomedical & Life Sciences say that people who often sleep poorly and miss REM sleep may be more likely to suffer from recurring migraines.
